NYS Route 17 I-81 Interchange

The firm was part of a joint venture to assess various interchange alternatives that would improve the geometric, structural, and operational deficiencies of the Rte 17/I-81 interchange in the City of Binghamton. Design phases I-IV involved development of an environmental assessment to address extensive environmental issues and several critical project elements, including maintenance and protection of traffic, constructability strategies, noise walls, and retaining walls. Several new bridges were also part of this project, including new bridges carrying the roadways over the Chenango River as part of a three-level interchange. Design phases V-VI included drainage design, SWPPP, erosion control, lighting design (high mast/roadway), noise-wall design, design of eight retaining walls (many >10 meters tall), landscape design, and bridge design of structures carrying the expressway over the Prospect Street connector, Mygatt Street, and Chenango Street.
