Route 26 Interstate 99 Design

Erdman Anthony served as prime consultant for this project, which begins at the US 322 interchange with Park Avenue, adjacent to the Penn State University Research Park and Beaver Stadium, and extends east 8.1 miles to SR 26 near Bellefonte. The project was bid in four construction sections (A02, C02, C03, and C05), included five interchanges and 49 structures, and totaled over $195 million in construction costs. Erdman Anthony provided project management, field surveys, and right-of-way mapping for the entire project, as well as final design for sections A02 and C02. These two sections totaled $105 million and included the complex I-99/ US 322/ Park Avenue interchange. The interchange included 16 ramp movements, 12 bridges (including dual 1,700-foot, 7-span curved girder structures), 600 feet of retaining wall, and numerous major utility relocations. In addition to design, Erdman Anthony participated in biweekly construction meetings for the life of the project. Construction was completed in November of 2002, and work order claims amounted to less than 2% of the actual construction cost.  In its final performance evaluation, PennDOT stated that specific Erdman Anthony personnel "were very knowledgeable and cooperative during the development of this project" and congratulated the firm for "a job well done."
