The Hunts Point Terminal Market is one of the largest produce distribution
centers in the world; supplying 3.3 billion pounds of fruits and vegetables a
year, worth over $2 billion, to more than 10 million consumers. The existing
facility was constructed in 1967 on the site of a former coal gasification plant
and construction/ demolition debris landfill and has numerous environmental

distribution center expansion. Erdman Anthony performed site/civil design,
rail/roadway transportation engineering, as well as mechanical, electrical, and

Evaluation of existing site track layout; including 41 turnouts, 9 miles of
track, and yard/spur space for 1,200 railcars.
Determination of length of storage tracks required for service to buildings.
Preliminary bridge design for 2 multi-span viaduct structures – each
approaching ½ mile in length.
Track structural design for poor supporting soils located on a former
