Deferiet Paper Company & CSX Grade Crossing Improvements

The project involved the replacement of two existing grade crossings and associated roadway & warning device improvements– one at the CR 37 crossing with the Deferiet Paper Company's yard lead, and the other at the CR 36 crossing with CSX Transportation's Carthage Secondary. Work was performed in conjunction with the the CR 36 Rehabilitation Project.

Key project features included:

 

  • Design of a modular precast concrete grade crossing; welded rail, tie, and ballast replacement for 400 track feet; and surfacing of existing approach track at the CR 37 crossing.

  • Design of a timber, rubber rail seal (Epflex), and asphalt concrete crossing; welded rail, tie, and ballast replacement; as well as geometric improvements for approximately 580 track feet were provided for the CR 36 crossing.

  • Development of construction details, specifications, and detailed quantity/cost estimates.

  • Review of shop drawing submittals for grade crossings, track materials, and crossing signals and gates.
