US 119 Construction Inspection (Section 496)

Erdman Anthony was contracted by PennDOT, District 10-0 to provide construction inspection and documentation services for the reconstruction and widening of Route 119 from Blaire Road in Burrell Township to Ridge Avenue (Route 56) in Homer City, PA (SR 0119, Section 496).

The US Route 119 widening project was the second phase of the US Route 119 South improvement project. The project included four sound barrier walls, an MSE retaining wall, 160,000 cu m of 250 mm mainline concrete, 13,850 m of pipe, 650,000 cu m of earthwork, and a three-span prestressed concrete bridge 102 m in length. The project included nine jughandles built at various intersections along Route 119, and a new traffic signal at the intersection of Route 119 and Luciousboro Road. The existing traffic signal at the intersection of Sheetz in Black Lick and at State Route 56 in Homer City was upgraded.

Ten acres of wetlands were constructed along the Blacklick Creek near the Conemaugh River, and a bike trail was constructed that parallels US Route 119 from the Hoodlebug Trail to Cornell Road. Erdman Anthony managed a staff of up to 14 inspectors during peak construction, and the project was completed in three years.
