Tenth Avenue, Military Trail to Congress Avenue

Erdman Anthony provided professional services for the 1.5-mile long roadway widening and reconstruction of Tenth Avenue North from Military Trail to Congress Avenue. The project involved several challenging grading and drainage issues. Located in Lake Worth, the roadway bisected a heavily developed corridor serving commercial and residential developments. Right-of-way limitations required creative grading of the roadway to match existing grades without completely reconstructing the existing pavement.

The design used the existing drainage system as much as possible. Existing drainage structures were modified and fitted with new tops to fit within the proposed roadway while salvaging the culvert system. Installing exfiltration trenches near the system outfalls provided improved water quality for the additional impervious area. The design included off-line systems to improve quality and used oval pipes to keep the trenches as high above the water table as possible.

A number of existing utilities within this older, highly developed urban corridor had to be considered during the construction. These included water, sewer, force main, gas, and existing telephone and overhead facilities. Surveying services included construction easement sketches, field surveying for design and utility coordination, and location of soil borings and underground utilities.
