University of Rochester Biomedical Engineering and Optics Lab Commissioning

Erdman Anthony provided commissioning services for the University of Rochester at their new, $37.7 million Bio-Medical Engineering and Optics Building on their River Campus in Rochester, NY. The new building has a total floor area of 101,000 sq ft and is five stories high, with a partial basement and a mechanical penthouse. The building houses academic classroom space, common areas, and faculty offices, as well as biology and optics laboratories.

Commissioning services were provided during the design phase and continued through the end of the building warranty period. Systems commissioned included: central station VAV air handlers, lab air valve terminal units, exhaust systems, heat exchangers, lab gas systems, instrument cooling loop and heat exchanger. Erdman Anthony's commissioning engineers formed a cohesive team with the trades contractors, which allowed our engineers to stay in tune with construction progress and issues and to direct functional testing in such a way that all commissioning activities were completed inside of a compressed project close-out schedule.
