Allegany County Jail and Public Safety Building

The Erdman Anthony design team led the environmental (SEQR) process, which required coordination among archeologists, historical building specialists, SHPO, the client, and the construction manager. Erdman Anthony provided fire-protection and civil/site design and supervised the environmental process for a new 94,090 sq ft Jail and Public Safety Building in Allegany County. The complex incorporated a new 911 center, offices for sheriff and jail administration, a visitation area, medical facilities, and a kitchen/cafeteria area. The jail's fire protection system included fully automatic wet and dry pipe, sprinkler systems, and a manual wet-standpipe system. In addition to institutional-style sprinkler heads in all secure areas, the sprinkler system design included flow test solenoid valves that allowed jail operators to test the sprinkler system from the central control room.

The civil/site engineering design included a fast-track survey during difficult weather conditions. Our team investigated soil drainage capabilities for potential leach fields, designed a retention pond for storm water runoff, and provided general site design for roads, parking lots, and loading areas. The utility infrastructure (i.e., water, gas, sanitary) was not available at the site, which required our team to develop a plan and work with county officials to provide a design that would support the building's utility needs.

The Erdman Anthony design team led the environmental (SEQR) process, which required coordination among archeologists, historical building specialists, SHPO, the client, and the construction manager. Several phases of archeological investigations were included in the SEQR process. Our team's investigations and reviews facilitated approval for a potentially sensitive site without disrupting the proposed overall project schedule. Erdman Anthony's team of experts guided the project through the extensive SEQR process to meet the project's goals while satisfying all of New York State's environmental requirements.
