Erdman Anthony provided HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical design services for the approximately 70,000 sq ft, $22 million, three-story new technology center located in the heart of the Buffalo State Campus. The new technology center accommodates seven technology-based programs of study, including electrical engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology, technology education, computer information technology, and fashion and textile technology. The goal for this project was to elevate visibility of technology, maximize shared teaching spaces, attract and retain faculty, provide shared student resource space, and be an incubator for regional industries. The classrooms, labs, and shops have technology integrated into many of the activities and equipment used daily by the students. In addition, these smart spaces can be shared and used by multiple departments and faculty.
The building includes production lab spaces, analytical lab spaces, computer lab spaces, lecture rooms, smart classrooms, faculty office, research and support spaces and other additional building spaces. A LEED Gold rating was attained for project. Erdman Anthony provided energy modeling support to optimize the efficiency of the building through integration of the envelope, mechanical, and electrical systems. The existing campus central steam and electrical services was utilized. The cooling system along with the various support services such as compressed air and dust collection are generated and distributed throughout the building.
