University at Buffalo – Education Opportunity Center

Erdman Anthony provided the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering services for the new Educational Opportunity Center on the University at Buffalo's Downtown Campus. The mission of the state-of-the-art facility is to produce lifelong learners who are self-directed, empowered, and committed to excellence and be able to pursue their educational and career goals. This campus center includes classrooms, computer labs, offices, library and learning resource centers, student lounges, assembly and exhibition areas, and a head start daycare center. Built to serve not only more than 1,900 students but the community at large, the new building provides space for formal gatherings such as performances and art shows while also allowing for informal student gatherings and study areas.

The building, which is located at 555 Ellicott Street, was completed in June of 2013 and totals nearly 70,000 sq ft and incorporates environmentally sustainable elements in addition to being a LEED Gold-designed facility. The building's envelope along with the mechanical and electrical systems were modeled utilizing an integrated approach to optimize the energy performance of each of these systems.
