University of Rochester - Ronald Rettner Hall for Media Arts and Innovation

Erdman Anthony was retained by the University of Rochester to provide technical assistance through New York State Energy Research and Development Agency’s (NYSERDA) New Construction Program as well as commissioning (Cx) services on the new Media Arts and Innovation Center. The owner was not seeking a USGBC LEED certification rating but requested that LEED-NC 2.2 protocols be followed. As such, commissioning was required to meet the criteria of Energy & Atmosphere Prerequisite 1 (EAp1)–Fundamental Commissioning of Building Energy Systems and was broadened to meet the requirements set forth in Energy & Atmosphere Credit 3 (EAc3)–Enhanced Commissioning. The project consisted of an addition of a three-story, approximately 18,000-sq-ft media arts building with a mechanical penthouse on the River Campus of the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. The building includes an atrium, fabrication studio and shop, group study and learning areas, and video and sound recording studios. Some ancillary renovations to the attached existing building were done as well. The project included construction phase commissioning with a post-occupancy follow-up.

Erdman Anthony will also prepare and submit a notarized copy of the NYSERDA Building Commissioning certification form to the university in order to meet the submission requirements for the NYSERDA New Construction Program (NCP11106) incentives.
