Ontario Beach Park Carousel Sprinkler System

Built in 1905, "The Duchess" Dentzel menagerie carousel continues to be the highlight of Ontario Beach Park. It has the distinction of being one of only 14 operating antique menagerie carousels in the United States; it is also one of a very few that remain in its original location.

In 1984, Monroe County undertook a complete restoration of the merry-go-round, returning the hand-carved animals to their original glory, and in 1980 the Preservation Board granted the carousel landmark status.

As part of Erdman Anthony's General Architectural and Engineering Term Agreement with Monroe County Parks, the County requested an evaluation report on the automatic sprinkler system within the carousel building, including possible repair and/or replacement options.

After review of the evaluation report, the County entrusted Erdman Anthony to provide engineering services for the design of a new sprinkler system for the building. Consistent with the recommendations of Erdman Anthony’s report, the sprinkler design is comprised of galvanized steel piping and a compressed nitrogen cylinder system that will provide better protection from corrosion than the existing compressed air system.
