This Thruway Authority project repaired concrete pavement joints on I-90 in the 2.1 mile long, eight lane free section in Buffalo. Broken joints were saw cut and removed. New load transfer dowels were inserted into the remaining pavement and 13" thick precast concrete panels were set in place over the dowels and then grouted.
All work was done at night by closing 3 of the 4 lanes of traffic. Work also included diamond grinding of the complete section for smoothness; replacement of bridge joints; substructure concrete repairs; partial depth concrete repairs; joint sealing; and additional pavement repairs at the Williamsville toll barrier plaza. Erdman Anthony supplied the Project engineer and 3 inspectors for this $6.7 million project.
