Binks Forest Elementary School

Erdman Anthony provided stormwater management, environmental, utilities, traffic, and construction observation services for the design-build construction of Binks Forest Elementary School.  The 15-acre site is located on the south side of SR 80 at Ousley Farms Road.  Although the site was in a platted area with a previously constructed surface water management, a SFWMD permit and modification was required to prove that the land use and grading assumptions from the conceptual permit had been met.  This was accomplished due to the site’s high elevation; however, the conceptual permit did not provide any dry pre-treatment as was required of this non-residential site.  Therefore, a dry detention pond was designed and constructed for the site.

Water and sewer were not available to the side, so off-site mains were designed within the Bent Creek Road right-of-way to service the new building.  Gravity sewer was used to service the site, which included on site grease traps from the cafeteria.  Fire lines and domestic water lines were looped around the building to improve water flow.  Our staff prepared and processed the necessary permits from the Village and Health Department.

Erdman Anthony coordinated closely with the site planning team and the local municipality to mitigate environmental impacts.  The selected site was nearly covered in Native Florida Uplands, so approximately 20% of the site was set aside as an upland preserve.  An off-site roundabout was constructed at the intersection of Bent Creek Road and Ousley Farms Road to enable a longer queue for the parent drop off.  This design helped minimize public concern regarding traffic at the school site.  Erdman Anthony provided construction observation services to ensure that the plans and specifications were met, resulting in a safe, modern new public school building.
