Pilot Knob Telecommunication Facility

Erdman Anthony successfully developed a site plan for the Pilot Knob Telecommunication Facility in order to meet the strict developmental guidelines of the Lake George Park Commission, Town of Fort Ann, and the Adirondack Park Agency. Erdman Anthony was able to create a site plan that complied with the stringent environmental requirements of each of the regulatory agencies. Over the course of eight years, Erdman Anthony worked hand in hand with the governmental agencies, municipalities, client, contractor, and land owner to successfully deliver a design to accommodate these diverse parties.

At the end of a long access road meandering through the woods along the eastern shore of pristine Lake George is the Pilot Knob Telecommunication Facility. Erdman Anthony's road design layout preserved many of the old-growth trees on the site by developing the access way through a previously disturbed area. The road terminates at a stockade wood fence enclosure screening the equipment shelters from hikers traveling along nearby trails. The tower itself was developed by Nextel Partners to represent a white pine tree simulated from a 3-D scan of an existing tree at the site. The stealth monopine has simulated bark, additional branching on the south side, mimicking nature, and nylon needles custom made in several colors to closely replicate on-site vegetation.
