The Genesee Valley Branch of the American Public Works Association (APWA) has selected the New York State Department of Transportation Region 4’s I-390 Interchange Improvements at I-490, Phases 3 and 4 project to receive the 2021 Project of the Year Award in the transportation greater than $75 million category.

The award recognizes excellence in creativity, ingenuity, and efficiency in the delivery of public works projects that have a profound impact on communities. The award also recognizes alliances among managing agencies, engineers, and contractors that lead to the successful completion of public works projects.

The completed project, which opened at the end of November, has reduced congestion and enhanced safety along a corridor vital for the flow of people and commerce in the Rochester, New York, area.

Erdman Anthony provided highway and bridge design and construction support for the project.
