ACEC New York has selected Erdman Anthony to receive a 2023 Diamond Award in Category H: Transportation, for the firm’s work as lead design engineer on the I-390 Interchange Improvements at I-490, Phases 3 & 4 project in the Town of Gates, New York. The project, a design-build contract in collaboration with Akron, NY-based Cold Spring Construction Company, included building three new mainline bridges, reconfiguring a ramp, replacing an aging overpass bridge, new embankment, pavement rehabilitation, enhanced lighting, traffic signal design, new noise walls, and reconstruction of a portion of Lyell Avenue. Prior to any improvements, traffic backups and safety issues were prevalent at the interchange, and pedestrian and bicycle accommodations were lacking on Lyell Avenue west of I-390. The correction of these issues was completed in the final two phases, bringing the project to completion 10 months early. The Diamond award, the highest of the ACEC New York’s Engineering Excellence Awards, is a spectacular distinction for the firm’s work, and a community win for the Town of Gates and the entire Rochester area.

The ACEC-NY black-tie award recognition gala takes place in March 2023 in New York City.
