ROCHESTER, N.Y., November 28 — The American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC New York) has announced the winners of the 2024 Engineering Excellence Awards. Erdman Anthony, a Rochester, New York-based multidisciplinary firm specializing in infrastructure engineering and support services, has received an ACEC New York Gold award for its transportation project, the NYS Route 13 Connector Road in Horseheads, New York.
Erdman Anthony provided the Chemung County Department of Public Works with preliminary and final design services and construction support and inspection for this Locally Administered Federal Aid (LAFA) project. The scope involved construction of an entirely new three-quarter-mile-long roadway between NYS Route 13 and Old Ithaca Road – a rare occurrence for urban collector-classified roadways. Features included a new bridge, two roundabouts, and improvements to two and a half miles of adjacent roads. The project is notable for having rerouted high-volume tractor-trailer traffic away from the heart of the Village of Horseheads.
In addition, portions of a 100-year-old levee that protects the entire town from flooding was reconstructed due to impacts from deterioration, vegetation, and development in and around the levee. Reconstruction of the industrial railroad crossing at Wygant Road, which included a gated crossing, driveway improvements, and a right-turn lane at the intersection, has positioned Southern Tier Business Park as a preferred transloading and multimodal transportation center. Erdman Anthony is proud to have helped build a better community for the residents and commercial interests of Horseheads.
Each year, over 50 member firms submit public- and private-sector projects to the Engineering Excellence Awards that are judged on a rigorous set of criteria. This project will be honored at the 57th Annual Engineering Excellence Awards Gala, which will take place in New York City in April 2024. The Engineering Excellence Awards program is a celebration that also helps publicize the many significant contributions consulting engineers make to the built environment throughout the world.
For 70 years, Erdman Anthony has provided infrastructure engineering and support services to private industry and government clients. The multidisciplinary firm employs 250 people, including over 80 professional engineers and professional land surveyors, throughout its offices in Albany, Buffalo, and Rochester, New York; Harrisburg and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; West Palm Beach, Florida; Leesburg, Virginia; and Columbia, Maryland.
