MEP, Fire-Protection, and IT Design
PennDOT District 2-0 selected Erdman Anthony to design the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire-protection, and IT systems for District 2-0’s 70,000-square-foot engineering building that houses administrative and public operations and to design those systems for the district’s 5,000-square-foot maintenance garage and storage facility.
The mechanical systems included a conventional heat-pump system throughout the building, with a dedicated ventilation and make-up air system consisting of an energy recovery ventilator, gas-fired heating, and direct expansion cooling to distribute neutral air temperature.
The installed system is highly energy-efficient, with little requirement for additional heat through the auxiliary boiler system.
Electrical systems included interior and exterior lighting, power, a fire alarm, security, and telecommunications. A 750-kW generator also was installed to serve the entire building, which serves as a regional emergency-management center.
