The Seminole Tribe of Florida retained Erdman Anthony for professional engineering services related to the widening and reconstruction of Harney Pond Road, from Flowing Well Road to CR 721, which is a distance of approximately 1.2 miles in Glades County, Florida. Key aspects of this project that our firm handled included the design of typical section alternatives, roadway drainage (including off-site inflows), potable water main replacement, and sanitary force main adjustments. Erdman Anthony also prepared a typical section alternatives report that looked extensively at the cost associated with alternative typical sections to provide vehicular and pedestrian access to this primary corridor. A seasonal high water table, coupled with limited outfalls, required innovative drainage design. Off-site stormwater flows that historically flooded the roadway swales were isolated, bypassing the roadway drainage system to reduce localized flooding. Water quality was provided in roadside swales, and the drainage system was divided to utilize the available outfall locations more efficiently. Erdman Anthony provided post-design services throughout the construction period, including RFI and shop-drawing reviews. Our firm also attended biweekly construction-progress meetings.
