Laser Scanning and Site Plan Development
THE PROJECT
The City of West Palm Beach’s Pleasant City Community Center was built in the 1980s to supplement a 1926 structure. It served the community well, but it needed revitalization.
Erdman Anthony was the prime consultant for the renovation of the 10,500-square-foot building, and our firm worked closely with an architectural subconsultant to develop a renovation plan. We also provided construction-phase services and coordinated community outreach efforts for the project.
FEATURES/SOLUTIONS
The design team needed accurate documentation of the building’s floor plan and exterior elevations, so our firm proposed using laser-scanning technology to capture the building’s interior. Our scanning process followed the U.S. Institute of Building Documentation’s Level of Accuracy (LOA) specifications so that the design team had properly collected data for inclusion in the Revit model. Autodesk ReCap files were generated from the scanned data to be used as the basis of the Revit Level of Development (LOD) 200 model.
The design called for new flooring, wall treatments, windows, and bleachers, as well as office space, storage space, an ADA-compliant entry, and upgrades to the on-site commercial kitchen. Ultimately, these improvements ushered in a refreshed and more occupant-friendly atmosphere.
IMPACTS
The revitalized community center can continue to offer recreation opportunities to the community, including participants in its after-school, summer camp, holiday, and child care programs.
