Engineering Project Case Studies | Erdman Anthony

Railroad Survey and Laser Scanning

THE PROJECT
The project involves a rail-improvement design project in New York’s Adirondack Mountain region.
Erdman Anthony provided field topographic surveying and mapping services to our in-house railroad design group.

FEATURES/SOLUTIONS
The field surveying was performed within limits as determined by the engineer and owner, and by utilizing GPS topographic mapping related to the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD 83) (2011), New York State Plane East Zone, and North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD 88).

The survey data collection was for basemapping of existing conditions as the subsequent design work was performed. Baseline points and benchmarks were established in the field as reference control for potential construction activities in the future.

IMPACTS
The survey data collection was for basemapping of existing conditions as the subsequent design work was performed. Baseline points and benchmarks were established in the field as reference control for potential construction activities in the future.
