Primary Substation Replacement

Erdman Anthony provided electrical engineering services to Rochester Institute of Technology to design the replacement of the existing primary substation.

The project involved the replacement of the existing utility-owned primary transformers with campus-owned transformers to allow for full redundancy on the two incoming utility high-voltage service lines, as well as full redundancy in the event of a failure of one transformer. The upgrade will also allow the Campus to purchase at the sub-transmission level tariff.

Our firm also served as RIT’s technical liaison/agent to the local electric company, which included evaluating optional tariffs and acquiring the utility construction and design requirements.

In addition, Erdman Anthony designed the primary substation, overhead and underground high-voltage utility interconnections, utility metering, and all related protective relaying and monitoring equipment.
